Roger Stone Sentenced to 40 Months Prison

Former Attorney General Don Stenberg on Whether Justice was Served

Intro: Roger Stone was just handed a sentence of 40 months in prison by Judge Amy Berman for allegedly telling lies and the first-time offense at that. The question is: Did the punishment fit the purported crime.

President Trump believes that sentence has too harsh, and Judge Jackson has suspended the sentencing until she rules on Stone’s motion asking for a new trial.

Clearly, President Trump wanted a reduced sentence and is not happy with the book being thrown at his former adviser.

Tucker Carlson has strongly hinted that a presidential pardon is in the wings.

Attorney General William Barr said during an interview that with President Trump’s ongoing stream of tweets, it’s difficult for him to do his job, which may have contributed to the harsh sentence. For a 67-year-old, this could be a life sentence, being imprisoned until after his 70th birthday.

To better understand the sentencing and the pressure Attorney General William Barr and his department were under, we welcome the former attorney general of Nebraska, Don Stenberg.

Q&A:

  1. Do you believe 40-month prison sentence is just for a first-time purported lie under oath?
  2. What is involved with the suspended sentencing until Judge Jackson rules on Stone’s motion asking for a new trial? Does that mean he will not go to prison during this waiting time?
  3. What might the difference be in a new trial, if granted, based on ‘alleged juror misconduct?
  4. We witnessed the President injecting himself into this case. How often does the chief executive of a nation or state intervene regarding the work of an attorney general?
  5. When is it right for a president to intervene?
  6. How would you have responded to that involvement if you were in the shoes of Attorney General Barr?
  7. Do you think Attorney General Barr was justified in calling out the President over his tweets when the President says the liberal media doesn’t report accurately so his media is Twitter?
  8. Do you believe President Trump is justified in tweeting that the recommended sentence for Stone should be reduced, considering that 1000 former attorney general employees signed a petition for William Barr to resign? And is Trump justified if he now calls for a full pardon for Roger Stone?
  9. Tell us about your book, “Eavesdropping on Lucifer.” And do you think Lucifer gets involved in politics, courts, culture or in moral issues of our day?

ABOUT YOUR GUEST DON STENBERG…

Don Stenberg (born September 30, 1948) served as attorney general of the state of Nebraska from 1991 to 2003 and later served as the Nebraska state treasurer from 2011 to 2019. He previously also served as legal counsel to Nebraska Governor Charles Thone from 1979 to 1983. His law degree, with honors, is from Harvard Law School.

As a pro-life Republican, Don Stenberg fought to end partial-birth abortion in the state of Nebraska.  As Nebraska’s Attorney General, he personally defended Nebraska’s ban on partial-birth abortion in an argument in the U.S. Supreme Court. Unfortunately, the 2000 Supreme Court was too liberal and overturned Stenberg’s legislation in Stenberg v. Carhart.

Today Don Stenberg is on a media and book tour promoting his new book, Eavesdropping on Lucifer. In the book, Lucifer explains to his apprentice how the drastic changes in our culture came about – from abortion on demand to Ten Commandment monuments being removed and religious freedom being restricted. In the end, Lucifer admits and complains that his evil work can be defeated by belief in God’s Son.

Don’s book is scheduled to be released May 5, 2020, but can be preordered on Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com. Here’s an endorsement by former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft:

“Eavesdropping on Lucifer is common sense, digestible wisdom that can be easily understood by every generation. C.S. Lewis would have given it his stamp of approval.”

–Former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft
