Protests Are Growing In Israel As Benjamin Netanyahu’s Administration Overcomes No-Confidence Vote (Guest: David Rubin)

The former mayor of Shiloh what’s happening with the right-wing protest against the Prime Minister.

Benjamin Netanyahu may have overcome the odds in the Knesset, but there’s still a lot to overcome when it comes to public opinion.

Per this report from CNBC, the Israeli Prime Minister recently survived a no-confidence vote in the country’s parliament, in the midst of continuing demonstrations that have been the largest in Israel’s history. This follows Netanyahu’s push for judicial reforms that haven’t been well-received by Israelis.

Following the stopping of the largest labor union earlier in the day, Arnor Bar-David, who leads the Histradut union, said in a statement, “Stop this judicial process before it is too late.” He also referred to it as “craziness” as he declared the strike amongst his union’s 800,000 members.

Even with these protests, however, it appears that the government will continue to push forward with the reforms.

Over on Twitter, Minister of Security Itamar Ben Gvir noted, “The reform of the justice system must not be stopped and we must not surrender to anarchy.”

Also in support of moving forward with Netanyahu in charge is Minister of Justice Yariv Levin, who told Reuters, “A situation in which everyone does as they wish is liable to bring about the instant fall of the government and collapse of the (ruling party) Likud. We must all strive to stabilize the government and coalition.”

But where will this go when it comes to the future of Israel? With us now to address this situation further is David Rubin, who previously served as the mayor of Shiloh and is  the author of seven books, as well as the founder of Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. His expertise should prove quite useful in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. Now that Netanyahu has survived the vote of no-confidence, what do you think of the reaction by Israeli protestors and the Histradut union?
  2. We believe that Netanyahu has agreed to freeze the legislation until the next Knesset session, which will take place late next month. How will this affect what’s happening in Israel?
  3. You’ve also made note about a massive protest that’s currently taking place in Jerusalem. Tell us more about that and how it’s affecting what Netanyahu is trying to do with the judicial system.
  4. Do you believe these protests will simmer down, or could the situation get worse before it gets better? How heated could things get in Israel in the months ahead?
  5. Do you believe Netanyahu will attempt to find some form of resolution to ease the minds of his fellow Israelis? Or will he continue to push forward with what he’s currently doing?
  6. Where can we learn more about you and your work with Shiloh Israel Children?
