Pro-life Strategist Warns All Gains with SCOTUS Win Could be Lost with Mid-terms (Guest: Jim Harden)

Pro-life strategist Rev. Jim Harden, CEO of recently firebombed Buffalo medical office sounds alarm, warning all pro-life gains made with reversal of Roe could be lost if pro-abortion politicians dominate mid-term elections. One of two things will happen as a result of the mid-term elections. One, the gains enjoyed by releasing the Court’s stranglehold on states to govern their own affairs related to abortion are solidified with the election of pro-life legislators. Or two, pro-lifers lose the ability to have a public voice and presence with the election of pro-abortion legislators.

Q&A:

  1. What can we learn from the lead-up to the mid-term primaries?

Answer: New York has long been the nation’s bellwether when it comes to abortion. On the lead up to the mid-term primaries, pro-abortion Democratic candidates made abortion a key issue. According to AdImpact, pro-life candidates spent $4.2 million to the pro-abortion candidates’ $31.9 million. Even Planned Parenthood committed to spending $50 million in a mid-term campaign dubbed ‘Take Control,’ to keep abortion top of mind for voters in the election.

  • What has been the conservative response to the Dobbs ruling?

Answer: The Dobbs ruling on June 24 is hailed as a pro-life victory forty-nine years in the making, but it did not end the American abortion battle—it simply opened a new theater. Judging by the relative dearth of discussion about anything pro-life in conservative election bids, it seems the SCOTUS reversal of Roe may have lulled conservatives to sleep.

  • What has been the pro-abortion political response to the mid-terms?

Answer: A Planned Parenthood Votes representative in Georgia insists this mid-term election is the most important one in a life-time when it comes to abortion. She may be right. If pro-abortion politicians pick up congressional and senate seats, not only can they rebuff pro-life attempts to honor the personhood of all preborn babies, protecting them from abortion, but they can make Biden’s dream of cementing abortion a human right in federal law.

  • What can be expected from pro-abortion legislation following the mid-terms?

Answer: After the reversal of Roe, Biden was quoted as saying, “The choice is clear. We either elect federal senators and representatives who will codify Roe, or Republicans who will elect a House and Senate that will try to ban abortions nationwide.” This kind of abortion legislation would do more than steal a state’s interest in protecting all citizens equally as Roe did. This kind of legislation, in making abortion a civil right, breaches religious liberty, robbing medical providers who object to abortion of their rights of conscience.

  • What is at stake for pro-life voters this year?

Answer: For pro-lifers, this is simultaneously the most exciting and most vulnerable moment in 50 years.

  • Do you have any advice for conservative candidates up for reelection?

Answer: If New York’s special elections on primary day are any indicator of what can be expected in the mid-terms, talking about abortion appears to be a winning strategy for pro-abortion politicians. Pro-life candidates need to start talking about abortion and that it is the role of government to protect all citizens equally, especially the most vulnerable among us, preborn boys and girls. If not, history may prove the overturning of Roe to be the worst thing that ever happened to the pro-life cause.
