Law enforcement veteran Michael Letts explains why the President’s solution is anything but.
After going back and forth for the past few months on whether he would have a proper solution for the ongoing border crisis, President Joe Biden believes he has something figured out.
Yesterday, he revealed a plan that would see Cubans, Haitians and Nicaraguans turned away from the border, noting, “Do not, do not just show up at the border. Stay where you are and apply legally from there.”
As part of this plan, the United States will legally accept 30,000 people per month from four nations, across two years’ time. They will be able to enter and work legally, provided their paperwork clears.
But that doesn’t mean people will stop trying to cross over into the United States. In fact, with the move, more migrants could create chaos for already-overburdened border agents.
Could things get worse before they get better? With us now to discuss this further is Michael Letts, a former law enforcement veteran with 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is the president, founder and CEO of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through charitable groups and sponsorships.
His expertise is certainly welcome in this matter.
Q&A:
- The Border Patrol agents have their hands full already, already stopping over 82,000 migrants from crossing into the U.S. from the four nations for November alone. Will what President Biden is doing possibly increase those numbers? What does this say about his plan in the long run?
- Why do you think that President Biden has such disdain for Border Patrol agents? He talked about “fund the police” last year, but aren’t they part of that group?
- What’s surprising about Biden’s plan is that he didn’t seem to disclose all the details to his colleagues and fellow lawmakers. Would you say this is a “blindside” move that should’ve been further discussed before its reveal?
- How bad do you think the migrant situation will get as 2023 goes on? Do you see a lot of “bad apples” getting in with the monthly group of 30,000?
- You’re the creator of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. Tell us more about that, and why support for fellow officers is so important right now.
- We understand that InVest USA is also actively involved with Twitter. Where can interested parties learn more?
