There are concerns at the moment over Title 42, a federal health order put in place from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It states that the government is able to send migrants back to their home countries immediately upon apprehending them, rather than putting them in detention facilities and charging them with immigration offenses.
Originally implemented by President Donald J. Trump in March 2020 as a way to keep America safe from the potential spread of COVID-19, current president Joe Biden is heavily considering rescinding Title 42, mainly due to pressure from rights groups and United Nations experts.
Opposing Biden’s potential reversal is In-Vest USA founder and CEO Michael Letts. We welcome him now to our program, where we’ll learn more about his thoughts on the matter.
- Do you think Biden is simply “caving” to remove Title 42 to appease support from his current and potential future allies, as a way to continue to stay in their good graces?
- The Department of Homeland Security notes that it believes that as many as 18,000 migrants a day could make their way into the United States. What do you think the fallout will be from this, and how will it affect day-to-day living?
- There are currently almost 6,000 apprehensions daily with Title 42 in place. How do you see these numbers being affected once Title 42 is potentially lifted?
- Do you think president Joe Biden has a deeper agenda behind the lifting of Title 42, outside of simply pleasing people within the United Nations?
- How would you handle the current situation surrounding Ukrainians trying to find asylum in the United States? Would there be anything you would change to Title 42 in regard to this, or would you leave it as is?
