President Joe Biden Is Once Again Pushing For an Assault Weapons Ban Following Raleigh Shooting (Guest: Stephen Willeford)

Gun Owners of America spokesman Stephen Willeford explains why banning assault weapons isn’t the answer to ending the violence.

Following an active shooter event that took place this weekend in Raleigh that left several people dead, President Joe Biden is once again pushing for a full ban on assault weapons. He notes that he’s a mere “two senators away” from giving the ban traction.

However, several pro-gun groups have protested Biden’s push towards banning assault rifles, claiming that there will be heavy opposition. And some are even questioning their effectiveness, noting that a 15-year old was able to get his hands on a rifle from an independent source, resulting in the events that unfolded in Raleigh.

So what is the answer then? Here to provide his take on the matter is Stephen Willeford, who currently serves as a spokesman for Gun Owners of America. You may also recall in 2017 how he stopped the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise is certainly welcome in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. A lot of people believe that Biden’s plan to ban assault weapons is “hellbent,” just as it was when he first tried to pass it in 1994. What do you think?
  2. Do you believe a ban on assault rifles would do any good, especially considering how easy they are to purchase them from pawn shops and through online retailers?
  3. Why do you think Biden is pushing for a gun ban? Is he and his administration trying to win over fans for a potential re-election in a couple of years? Or is it something else?
  4. You’ve mentioned in the past how Constitutional-carry for select citizens is a “strong” solution to fighting back against active shooter events. Can you go into more detail as to why you believe this?
  5. We’ve seen a previous report where the FBI reportedly concealed the effectiveness of Constitutional-carry citizens against active shooters, with numbers knocked down lower than where they might actually be. Why do you think they’re doing this?
  6. If you were in charge of drafting a Constitutional-carry law for the U.S., how would you go about it?
  7. If you can, tell us more about what went down in Sutherland Springs back in 2017, and how you were able to contain the situation.
  8. Where can we learn more about you and your current work with the Gun Owners of America?
