California Governor Gavin Newsom’s Inability To Accept Blame For High Gas Prices Doesn’t Instill Much Confidence In His Leadership (Guest: Guy Mitchell)

Author Guy Mitchell explains why experts have had no trouble ripping Newsom’s excuses to shreds.

For quite a while, California Governor Gavin Newsom was going on a tangent about the excruciatingly high gasoline prices within his state. However, instead of deeply looking into the problem, he simply blamed “greedy oil companies.”

“It. Does. Not. Add. Up. We cannot continue to allow greedy oil companies to rip us off at the pump,” he tweeted earlier in the week. He would go on to say he was looking for a way to punish oil companies with some form of windfall tax.

Since that time, however, several experts have called it a mere “blame game.” David Kreutzer, a senior economist for the Institute for Energy Research, told Fox News that the price gouging was based around the state’s “idiotic policies.”

For good measure, he added, “The big problem is we have policies in place, especially in California, that make it difficult to expand supply. When you have these rules and regulations that prevent markets from responding as robustly as they could, then prices are going to go up.”

Here to speak with us now about this potential issue is Guy Mitchell, the author of Global Warming: The Great Deception – The Triumph of Dollars and Politics Over Science and Why You Should Care. His expertise on the matter should prove useful here.

Q&A:

  1. Some people see this as a situation where Newsom is trying to garner popularity simply pointing his finger at something that isn’t to blame. In your eyes, what do you think is causing California gas prices to skyrocket so much?
  2. Are oil companies to blame in any of this? Or are they simply making do with the supply and demand issues in the state already?
  3. It sounds like Newsom and his so-called “idiotic policies” could cause some trouble for the state over the next few years, especially when it comes to what he’s trying to do with energy. What are your thoughts on what he has planned?
  4. Is there any sort of viable solution where he can find a clean energy program and yet still try to find a way to lower gas prices? Or is that a balance that’s simply too hard to maintain?
  5. Do you see gas prices getting better anytime soon for California? Or will it get worse with the potential recession that’s set to take place in 2023?
  6. It seems in all this blaming on oil companies, people forget that Newsom has a high gasoline tax that’s in effect in California. Should we assume that he’s failing to mention this in an effort to keep himself looking good? Do you believe the tax is even necessary at this point?
  7. Tell us more about your latest book, Global Warming: The Great Deception – The Triumph of Dollars and Politics Over Science and Why You Should Care, and why it’s such a relevant read right now in the face of a potential energy crisis.
  8. Where can consumers find out more about your book, Global Warming: The Great Deception?
