The spokesman for Gun Owners of America explains why the Second Amendment may be in danger of being overwritten.
During his State of the Union Address earlier this week, President Joe Biden doubled down on his plan to ban assault weapons in the United States. “Ban assault weapons now!” he said. “Once and for all.
“We did it before. I led the fight to ban them in 1994.”
However, now Biden has the assistance of Brady United, a group that firmly believes in the ban as much as he does. And with a new bill introduced by Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-CA the pieces could be in place to potentially rewrite the Second Amendment.
As expected, private gun owners and gun advocate groups have protested such a ban, stating that it wouldn’t do any good. In fact, they used California as an example, as the state put a gun ban in place – but it didn’t lower the level of gun violence as its government was expecting it to.
So how much of a danger does a gun ban pose? With us now to discuss this further is Stephen Willeford, a spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. You may recall in 2017 how he stopped the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise is welcome in this matter.
Q&A
- Why do you think Biden has more strength than ever to try and push forward his “assault weapons” ban? Brady United? His fellow Democrats?
- Do you think the bill stands any chance of being passed? Could Republicans be convinced to vote in favor of the bill with enough pressure?
- Why aren’t members of Congress – along with Biden himself – not analyzing the ineffectiveness of California gun ban? Are they simply ignoring the facts, or is there something else?
- What do you think the biggest problem is with a gun ban? That people who want a weapon can still get their hands on one anyway? Or is it more about freedom of choice?
- You’ve spoken at great length about the effectiveness of Concealed-Carry, or Constitutional-Carry, against “active shooters” and other gun incidents. Tell us more why you think this is the best solution compared to a ban.
- Tell us more about your “hero with a gun” incident in 2017, and the importance of being ready against an “active shooter.”
- Where can we learn more about you, as well as the Gun Owners of America?
