President Biden Continues His Push To Ban Assault Weapons In the U.S., Continuing His Battle With Private Gun Owners (Guest: Second Amendment Foundation)

While working his way through a trio of states over the Labor Day weekend, President Joe Biden continued his push to ban assault rifles in the United States, as a potential solution to slowing active shooter events.

During a stop in Maryland, Biden explained to his followers, “I’m determined to ban assault weapons in this country. I did it once before and we will do it again.”

He continued, “If we elect more Democrats to the Senate and keep the House Democratic, imagine the possibilities. We’ll ban assault weapons, saving countless lives.”

However, many advocates believe that this is a rather harsh solution to the problem, one that could affect a number of private gun owners within the United States. Among them is Second Amendment Foundation, a group that fights for the rights of said owners. We have a representative from that group joining us today to discuss Biden’s recent statement against these weapons.

Q&A:

  1. You’ve stated in the past that a ban on assault weapons wouldn’t be as effective as Biden is hoping it would be. Why do you believe that is?
  2. Even if the weapons do end up being banned with one of Biden’s bills, couldn’t people still have access to them (or at the very least, the parts) through a number of online websites?
  3. Why do you think Biden isn’t taking a closer look at how easy it is for certain people to access these guns? Do you believe he should be working on an alternate solution for accessibility, rather than banning them outright?
  4. What kind of sway do you believe Biden’s comments will have on private gun owners heading to the ballot box?
  5. If you were in charge of drafting a bill that would protect the American people, how would you go about it? Work on something revolving around concealed-carry? Or perhaps another approach?
  6. Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation and its members?
  7. Those interested can visit http://www.saf.org/.
