Ahead of the forthcoming midterm elections in November, Planned Parenthood is planning to spend $50 million in an effort to keep arguments about abortion fresh in voter’s minds. This follows the company’s previous spending of $45 million back in 2020, with the focus of pushing selected candidates for governor’s offices and U.S. senate seats. The program will go under the name Take Control.
“We say this every cycle: ‘This is the important election,’ Amy Kennedy, a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood Votes in Georgia, noted during a press statement. “For us, this really is the most important election cycle of our lives.”
But with this announcement, a pair of interesting questions have emerged. The first is what kind of sway Planned Parenthood will have on certain political opponents with the funding. But the big one that some are wondering about is…where is the funding actually coming from? The company didn’t make it clear where the funding’s source was, nor who was contributing to it.
Joining us now to discuss this matter is Rev. James Harden, M. Div., who serves as the CEO of CompassCare Pregnancy Services. He also pioneered the first measurable and repeatable medical model in the pregnancy center movement.
Q&A:
- Should Planned Parenthood spending this amount of money specifically on politics be that much of a concern? Is it because of its push back on the Roe vs. Wade overturning, or mainly due to where the money is coming from?
- What kind of impact do you believe this will have on some candidates heading into the mid-term elections later this year? Particularly with U.S. Senate races?
- Do you think this will have an effect on the Republicans’ plan to pursue a national abortion ban?
- Planned Parenthood spent $45 million back in 2020 in an effort to keep the discussion of abortion going. Considering what happened with Roe vs. Wade, do you see this discussion changing shape anytime soon?
- You’ve been talking quite a bit about CompassCare and a recent firebombing of a location in Buffalo, with no word on finding any of the culprits. Tell us more about this and what frustrates you about the lack of a true investigation.
- Where can we learn more about CompassCare and its services?
