Persians in Paris (Guest: Alireza Zafarzadeh)

Iranian People to Descend on French Capital, where their Persecution Began

There is a reason why the Iranian people chose Paris, France as Ground Zero for this Saturday’s rally against the Regime. It was there that the Ayatollah Khomeini lived in exile before the fall of the Shah of Iran. Then, in February of 1979, the Shah fell, and the Khomeini was on his way back to Tehran. Since then, Iran’s regimes have been murderous and repressive. This Saturday, the Iranian people will descend on the city where it all began—Paris.

Making this rally even more meaningful are the words and actions of U.S. President Donald Trump who, just this week signed a memorandum that instructed the U.S. Treasury Department to reinforce sanctions against the regime. To underscore this point, the memorandum calls for “Maximum Pressure” to be applied to Tehran and even includes the threat of further alienating the mullahs with the threat of punishing any countries who conduct business with Iran.

Right now, the environment is rich in Paris for a full-throated, but peaceful rally that calls for the dismantling of the oppressive regime. Iranian citizens are in prison—and on death row—for the crime of opposing tyranny. In addition to the weakening of Iran’s mullahs in recent months, the Trump administration is making its recent position on Iran align quite nicely with the Iranian people.
