Gun Owners of America spokesman Stephen Willeford considers this a big step forward when it comes to the protection of Florida citizens.
Even though it will likely be protested by anti-gun types, Florida is about to grant permitless carry for Florida citizens – giving them a big step forward when it comes to protection.
House Bill 543, known as Permitless Carry, is set to go into effect starting on July 1st. With it, citizens will be able to carry a concealed weapon or firearm without the need of a license. That said, they still won’t be permitted in certain places, such as schools, bars, court houses and universities.
The Fort Myers Police Department also made it clear that the period necessary to purchase a firearm will still remain the same, with a mandatory three-day waiting period between purchase and delivery.
Still, some see this as a huge step forward for Concealed-Carry, or Constitutional-Carry as some call it. We’ve seen a number of cases where it’s proven effective during “active shooter” events, with potential heroes stepping up to stop someone before they can hurt others. That said, some, including President Joe Biden, feel that it’s not the best way to go, opting instead for a full ban on “assault weapons.”
Joining us now to talk further about this is Stephen Willeford, the spokesman for Gun Owners of America. You may recall in 2017 how he stopped the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise in all things gun right should be useful in this matter.
Q&A:
- How much of a win do you think this is for Florida by allowing citizens to carry firearms without a license?
- What argument would you have for those that think this could make Florida a more dangerous place to visit? (Like, for instance, anti-gun advocates.)
- Are you hoping other states will likely pick up on similar policies, so that Constitutional-Carry/Concealed-Carry is more commonplace in the United States?
- Would you say that Constitutional-Carry/Concealed-Carry is a more effective solution towards “active shooters” than Biden’s proposed plan to ban “assault weapons”?
- You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how it came together.
- Where can people find your book?
You can purchase the book here on Amazon, both in paperback and Kindle format.
