Onto 2026! Where the Battle For Gun Rights Goes From Here (Guest: Stephen Willeford)

The spokesman for the Gun Owners of America discusses what lies ahead for the new year, especially when it comes to gun laws, the ATF and the Civil Rights Division.

2025 has definitely been an interesting year when it comes to assuring the rights as provided by the Second Amendment of the United States.

There were a record number of “active shooter” events this year. In turn, several states have attempted to set up some form of gun laws in an effort to curb opportunities for people to own firearms. Alas, a number of them have been done away with, but government types in New York and California aren’t likely to give up so easily.

Likewise, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have been busy as well. Despite President Donald Trump assuring that he would fight for Second Amendment rights after taking office this year, this agency has been quite busy trying to curb the rights of gun owners as well, particularly with its recent violations of the Tiahrt Amendments.

That said, there is the news that a new Civil Rights Division is set to make positive waves in Washington, with Department of Justice official Harmeet Dhillon noting that it will promise Americans that “a lot more action” on gun rights enforcement will be taken.

Which brings us to the new year. Where will the fight for gun rights go from here? Will other states attempt new restrictions? Will the Civil Rights Division do its job? And, for that matter, where does that leave the ATF?

Joining us to discuss this further is Stephen Willeford, the 2017 “hero with a gun” who serves as spokesman for the group. We welcome him to the show.

Q&A:

  1. What are your thoughts on the battle over gun rights this year?
  2. How about certain states attempting to create restrictive gun laws, despite the protection provided by the Second Amendment?
  3. Why do these states continue to try and set up these laws? Are they truly that concerned over the rise of “active shooter” events?
