NFT Week in NYC Kicks-off: Fiat’s on Fire NFT Burning Benjamins ($100 bills)

From Flat Iron District to Columbus Circle, the searing indictment of US currency blazed across high rises and financial institutions as perplexed onlookers captured the bizarre displays on their phones.

The city-wide stunt was the work of an anonymous artist whose “Fiat’s on Fire’ NFT collection hit on October 31 at OpenSea.io – on the anniversary of the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto’s infamous Bitcoin White Paper and the kick-off of ‘NFT Week’ in NYC. (For those living under a rock, NFT stands for Non-Fungible Tokens that are promoted by entrepreneurs including Mark Cuban)

“Fiat’s on Fire” is a collection of NFT videos capturing the burning of over $10K, beginning with one hundred $100 bills, burnt from several angles until each of the bills is reduced to ash. This is part one of a more extensive series of thought-provoking combustion and inferno mused pieces (drops), confronting the notion of so-called intrinsic value, the fallacy of our financial systems, and the shadow banking economies that divide our societies and widen inequality.

With 40% of US dollars currently in circulation having been printed since the start of the pandemic, a stimulus effort known historically to cause hyperinflation and ruin economies, it is the conviction of this artist that the writing is on the proverbial wall.

Available for interviews on the NFT topic is Michael O’Sullivan, a journalist with Bywire News in London. Michael was the only journalist allowed to watch the burning of $10,000 in Benjamins. He said the anonymous artist declared: “Fiat’s On Fire” is a rousing endorsement of decentralized digital currencies. All paper money will revert to its intrinsic value – zero.”

Michael O’Sullivan is a journalist with Bywire.News in London. He specializes in coverage of the Technology and Crypto marketplace.  O’Sullivan was the only journalist allowed to witness the creation of the Fiats on Fire NFT’s, the burning of the $10k benjamins.
