New York Congresswoman Introduces a Bill To Protect Pregnancy Centers (Guest: Jim Harden)

CompassCare CEO Jim Harden explains why the bill comes at a crucial time, especially with attacks on the rise.

Following what seems like an endless number of attacks on pro-life pregnancy centers, New York Congresswoman Claudia Tenney is again taking steps forward to provide pro-life Christians with protection though federal legislation.

On March 23, 2023, Rep. Tenney introduced the Pregnancy Resource Center Defense Act to the 118thCongress. This comes following heinous attacks by the Maoist Antifa and Jane’s Revenge, including a firebombing and a recent defacing of a CompassCare location in Buffalo, New York.

Rep. Tenney said in a recent statement, “Kathy Hochul, Letitia James, and President Biden have all failed to condemn this attack and offer protection to CompassCare and the people it serves. Rev. Jim Harden and the entire team at CompassCare work tirelessly and compassionately to provide critical care and services to expecting mothers. Our federal, state, and local law enforcement must work together to protect CompassCare and bring the perpetrators of both attacks to justice.”

CompassCare CEO Jim Harden added, “The attacks on Christian pro-life groups represent a threat to the Constitutional rule of law. Because all people are made in the image of God, we are equally valuable and deserving of equal protection without qualification—including a mother and her preborn child. Rep. Tenney’s [Pregnancy Resource Center Defense Act] sends the message that peaceful Christian pro-life people, like all people, should be able to walk out their beliefs free from political vilification, censorship, threats, and violence.”

That said, Harden believes that pro-abortion politicians could very well be on the attack over the bill. “It is important to note that this bill is not about abortion. Yet, similar to previously passed H Con Res. 3, when pro-abortion politicians were provided an opportunity to denounce domestic terror aimed at pro-life people, they will again lie to the public, mischaracterizing this bill as somehow anti-abortion in order to protect pro-abortion domestic terror emanating from Maoist Antifa. The only goal of this bill is to stop the violence against pro-life people and property. A politician who stands against this bill stands against the rule of law.”

Tenney had introduced the bill in 2022 at the reopening of CompassCare’s firebombed medical office for the 117th Congress and Senator Josh Hawley introduced a sister bill in the Senate. It is expected that Rep Tenney’s bill will pass in the House.

Harden (or CompassCare Director of Community Relations Daniel Tomlinson) joins us now to discuss this further.
