Evermore Father and Sons Team Mounts GIGANTIC American Flag Near Top of Zion National Park Mountain
UPDATE / 3-26-25: Today, the Evermore family (Dad Joe, Son Sam, 10 and Sylvan, 8) mounted a HUGE American Flag on the mountain face of Moonlight Buttress in Zion National Park. The mountain stands at 2000 Ft. and it is straight up! They plan to keep it up until Thursday Afternoon, March 26th. When Joe and his sons entered the park to begin their ascent, they noticed upside down American flags planted in the park.
At this time, we are monitoring the internet for PHOTOS FROM THE GROUND. IF YOU LOCATE ANY, PLEASE SEND TO Todd@SpecialGuests.com
The Father, Joe Evermore and sons Sam and Sylvan, 10 and 8 years-old, respectively, entered Zion National Park this morning and again noticed that there were several American flags planted upside down throughout the park, placed there by people who are protesting Donald Trump’s cuts and reductions in federal workforces. As they begin their ascent up Moonlight Buttress, packed with them is an ENOURMOUS American flag they will be mounting to the side of the mountain face up above, in direct response to the protesting of the federal workers.

The Angel’s Landing hike at Zion National Park is harrowing enough; few dare to try it. Climbing the adjacent Moonlight Buttress is an entirely different level of courage. Climbing it when you’re not yet a teenager is an extreme outlier in an extreme sport. Two pre-teen brothers doing it, with the older brother, age 10 on the rigging team of his younger brother, age 8, is unheard of.
Yet, that is EXACTLY what Sam and Sylvan Evermore are set to do before the month is out. In 2022, then 8-year-old Sam climbed 2,000 feet to summit Moonlight Buttress. He has since broken a world record, being the youngest person to ever summit El Capitan in Yosemite. He later climbed to within 1,000 feet of the Summit of the Matterhorn, only to have to turn back; he’s giving that one another try later this year.

With Sam as the point man on the rigging team, he will be in charge setting fixed ropes, building anchors, and protective systems for his brother. Their dad, Joe, will be joining them, as he always does.
Last year, Sylvan successfully climbed the Leaning Tower in Yosemite. He is planning to scale the nearly 8,000 foot El Capitan later this year. Moonlight Buttress will serve as the training wall for him.

What’s Next for the Evermores?
With Sylvan’s record now in the books, all eyes are on Sam’s next attempt at the Matterhorn. The Evermore family is currently training intensively, balancing school, family life, and preparation for what could be another historic climb.
Meanwhile, Sylvan is training to summit the same sheer mountain face at Yosemite that his older brother summitted in 2022. Together, they are climbing Moonlight Buttress. For Sam, it’s more practice, to include putting a learned skill into action. For Sylvan, it’s about training for his next big climb – El Capitan!

Why the Evermore Story Matters
The Evermore family’s story isn’t just about climbing records—it’s about the power of dreaming big, working hard, and pursuing goals as a team. In a time when many families are glued to screens, the Evermores are out scaling cliffs and conquering mountains, proving that extraordinary achievements are possible with dedication and the support of loved ones.
For media producers, Sylvan’s historic ascent and the family’s ongoing adventures offer a captivating narrative that’s both inspiring and universally appealing. Whether through documentaries, interviews, or feature stories, the Evermore family’s journey is a powerful reminder of the heights we can reach when we face challenges together.

About Sylvan, Sam, Joe, and the Evermores…
Sylvan and his older brother Sam are kids who love to climb mountains with their dad. They even set world records while doing it! Each rock face they scale is one more chance to get to the top, look out over the world, holler, “Whoop!” and give out high fives.
But to dad, Joe, their tandem climbs each have a different purpose. Each mountain is intended to be another challenge that Sam will learn to overcome. Joe is banking each ascent, creating a stash of victories upon which Sam can make withdrawals throughout his life, so he can not only climb a few mountains, but move a few too.
