Experts on Danger of Socialist Muslim Mayor

Ground Zero Mayor: First Act of Muslim Zohran Mamdani is to Scrap Definition of Antisemitism and Lift Restrictions on Boycotting Israel

Pastor Mark Biltz and former Mayor of Shiloh, Israel David Rubin are sounding the alarm following the inauguration of Zohran Mamdani, a moment they argue carries profound historical, moral, and security implications for New York City.

At issue is Mamdani’s immediate move to lift restrictions on boycotting Israel and his rejection of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism—a standard adopted by governments and institutions worldwide to distinguish legitimate criticism of Israel from antisemitic conduct. Biltz and Rubin argue that dismantling these guardrails signals not neutrality, but ideological alignment with movements hostile to Israel and dismissive of Jewish historical trauma.

Rubin, who governed the Israeli city of Shiloh during years of sustained terrorism, warns that New York residents should take these developments seriously. He draws a stark historical parallel: New York City was the primary target of the September 11, 2001, attacks carried out by Islamist extremists tied to the Muslim Brotherhood’s ideological ecosystem. That history, Rubin argues, makes today’s political signals especially alarming.

The concern is not isolated. In 2012, questions were raised nationally about the proximity of then–Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s aide Huma Abedin to Muslim Brotherhood–linked networks through family associations—controversies that intensified during Anthony Weiner’s mayoral campaign before it collapsed for unrelated reasons. Rubin and Biltz argue that New York has repeatedly flirted with political blindness to ideological extremism, often learning too late the cost of complacency.

Now, they say, the stakes are higher. Mamdani has publicly expressed solidarity with figures tied to Islamist causes, including individuals later identified as unindicted co-conspirators in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Combined with his embrace of socialist economic policies and anti-Israel activism, Biltz argues this reflects a worldview deeply at odds with Western democratic values and Jewish security.

Rubin’s warning is blunt: New York was once Ground Zero for jihadist terror. Today, he says, it risks becoming Ground Zero for ideological normalization of forces that celebrate America’s enemies while eroding protections for Jewish communities.

Biltz and Rubin are available to discuss why these developments matter far beyond Israel policy—and why history suggests ignoring ideological warning signs in New York carries consequences the city cannot afford to repeat.
