Mamdani Wants Netanyahu Behind Bars?

The controversial New York Mayor is looking into options to arrest the Israeli Prime Minister if he visits New York City later this year.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has certainly made his fair share of enemies over the years. But newly sworn in New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s grudge goes a bit deeper than that, as he’s having “active conversation” about potentially arresting him if he visits New York for the upcoming UN General Assembly. That kind of commentary definitely has Founder and President of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin concerned.

• New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani is having “active conversation” about possibly arresting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits New York in September.
• Mamdani notes that he believes Netanyahu “belongs in The Hague” because he’s “a war criminal who has been charged by the International Criminal Court.”
• Netanyahu has yet to respond, but officials note he will be attending the UN General Assembly, taking place in New York this September.

While talking with the New York Times, Mamdani explained his reasoning behind this decision. “I believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu belongs in The Hague. He’s a war criminal who has been charged by the International Criminal Court. And what you will find is that is an opinion that is held by many purely because of what his actions have wrought over these last many years.”

He continued, “I’ve also said that I will follow the laws that we have here in New York City because I believe that there is an importance in following the law as a leader who presides over our city.”

He noted he is having “an active conversation with our legal department,” and “whatever the law allows me to do in New York City, that’s what we will do, but we won’t be writing our own laws to that end.”

While Netanyahu has yet to respond, Danny Danon, who serves as Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, had plenty to say.

“Mamdani is failing to govern New York. Instead of focusing on his own responsibilities as Mayor and confronting the rising wave of antisemitism in his city, he has chosen to incite hostility and generate headlines by attacking the State of Israel.”

Danon also confirmed that “Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will come to New York, address the United Nations General Assembly with pride, and stand before the world to state Israel’s truth and its unwavering right to defend its citizens.” 

And he’s bound to have the support of U.S. President Donald Trump, who insists the two are working together for peace in Israel.

1. Do Mamdani’s comments make any sense, calling Netanyahu a “war criminal” and believing he has the right to arrest him during the UN General Assembly?
