Los Angeles Is Turning Criminals Into Police Officers, and It’s a Tremendous Mistake (Guest: Michael Letts)

The law enforcement veteran discusses turning these criminals into “dreamers” is a disaster waiting to happen.

With the situation surrounding police officers in the United States, Los Angeles has managed to come up with an interesting solution – and one that could be teetering on disaster.

According to a recent news piece from Law Enforcement Today, the Los Angeles Police Department is actually recruiting criminals – or even illegal immigrants – to help patrol their streets. And that means giving them firearms to defend themselves.

Known as “dreamers,” these types are part of a program put in place by Barack Obama back in 2012, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA for short.

Speaking with ABC-7, Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore noted, “We’ve tried to carve [out] just what is necessary for DACA, and these individuals be treated on the same basis of which non-DACA recipients are, as to the possession of a department firearm and its use.”

But this could be a problem, as The Federalist notes that this situation will “Illegally present foreigners who don’t have the constitutional right to bear arms can arrest and even disarm a U.S. citizen who does.”

Joining us now to discuss this matter further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is President, Founder and CEO of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. His expertise in all things law and order make him an ideal subject for this topic. Welcome, Mr. Letts!

Q&A:

  1. What is your opinion on “illegal immigrants” being hired to aid the police in Los Angeles? Is this a disaster waiting to happen?
  2. Is the situation really so dire in many of these states that the police have to come up with solutions such as this? Wasn’t there an alternative that Los Angeles Police could come up with?
  3. The Federalist noted that such a program allows “Illegally present foreigners who don’t have the constitutional right to bear arms can arrest and even disarm a U.S. citizen who does.” What do you think about this statement?
  4. Could this lead to further trouble for Los Angeles in the months ahead, considering they’ve already seen an increase in crime and questionable policies approved in the past?
  5. What sort of nationwide plan needs to be put in place by President Biden (or another leader) to assure that the police have the funding and support they need following the fallout from “defund the police”?
  6. You’re the creator of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers across a number of programs. Tell us more about it.
  7. Where can we learn more about InVest USA, and how those interested can help their fellow officers?
    1. You can visit our official InVest USA website, and learn more on the official Invest USA Twitter account. You can also learn about my new initiative at RestoringJustice.US, where we discuss lawful issues surrounding citizens of the United States.
