The Abraham Accords, brokered by the Trump administration, normalized relations between Israel and three key Arab countries, with more on the way, including Saudi Arabia, but all that may come to a grinding halt under a Biden presidency.
Ayoob Kara, former Israeli minister of communications, expressed those concerns to the Khaleej Times, echoing the well-grounded fear of many lawmakers and experts that as president, Biden will seek to reverse many of the Trump-era foreign policy moves.

- How real are these concerns and how is it that both Israelis and Arabs are expressing those concerns? President Trump’s creative approach to peace in the Middle East succeeded in encouraging several key Arab nations to find some very solid common ground with Israel. The concern about Iranian aggression and nuclear bomb pursuits are primary, but economic issues are important to them, as well.
- Since it’s been so successful, why would they think that Biden wouldn’t continue that process? Doesn’t he care about peace, as well? Biden is from the old school, an approach to peace that for forty years pandered to Iran and to the Palestinians. Trump was only successful because he abandoned that failed policy and started listening, both to Israel and to its Arab allies who are very concerned about Iran.
- What are the actual differences in the two approaches? The Biden doctrine has always supported the Iran nuclear deal, which has enabled the regime to continue its race to a nuclear bomb, without anything close to adequate inspection, and which allows the regime to continue heavily financing terrorist organizations like Hezbollah and Hamas. The Trump policy worked to cut off all funding both to and from Iran, and reimposed heavy sanctions, while working with Israel and certain Arab allies behind the scenes to stop the regime in other ways.
- Can you contrast the two different approaches to the Palestinians? Trump ended the Palestinian veto on peace moves in the Middle East. He also ended financial support for the Palestinians until they end their policy of paying salaries to every terrorist who kills or wounds an Israeli. On the other hand, Biden wants to restore the financial support to the Palestinian Authority, without preconditions. That approach is both immoral and foolish, since it just encourages more terrorism, while the Trump approach supports peace.
