Is the Israel/Hamas Hostage Deal More Problematic Than It Appears? (Guest: David Rubin)

Former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin discusses the big problems that could arise from the newly found hostage deal between Israel and Hamas.

Despite an ongoing battle that has since cost thousands of lives, Israel and Hamas have come to a temporary truce, one that will see the release of over 50 hostages over the course of the next few days.

The deal was approved following much deliberation within Israel’s cabinet, though Prime Minister Netanyahu says that after the pause, the Israel Defense Forces will continue the mission to “complete the eradication of Hamas”.

However, some critics believe this temporary truce could create some problems, as it gives Hamas potential time it needs to plot potential booby traps or, worse, a counterattack. It also creates a political dynamic and pressure on Israel that may not be reversible.

Among those who feel this way is David Rubin, the former Mayor of Shiloh. Considering that he’s seeing what’s happening in Israel at this moment, he provides some much-needed perspective on this subject. We welcome him to our studio.

Q&A:

  1. As promising as this Israel/Hamas deal is for hostages, you believe there are some big problems with it. What would you say are the most concerning?
  2. Do you believe that the four-day pause gives Hamas just enough time to plot something more tactical in its fight with Israel?
  3. Even though Israel promises to stay on guard during the four-day truce, could it possibly leave gaps that Hamas could take advantage of?
  4. What will this mean for potential future deals with Hamas to release more hostages? Does it give them the upper hand?
  5. If you were in charge of putting together a truce such as this, what approach would you take?
  6. Can you tell us more about the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, where people can help out children that are victims of terror?
