Is Netanyahu’s Return Really a Threat to Israel’s Democracy? (Guest: David Rubin)

Former Mayor of Shiloh, Israel, David Rubin discusses Inside Info

Benjamin Netanyahu is once again Israel’s Prime Minister, just a year and a half after he was removed from office, thanks to his coalition with more conservative parties to the right of his Likud party. As a result of their support, he has put some into higher end cabinet positions, such as National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich, who will also have decision-making authority over Judea and Samaria (the West Bank).

There has been fierce criticism from the Left on both sides of the ocean, claiming that this new coalition is a “threat to democracy”. Is there substance to those charges? Here to discuss is the former Mayor of Shiloh, David Rubin, who is also the author of seven books and founder of Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. His expertise in all things Israel, including politics, will be useful in this discussion.

Q&A:

  1. What does Netanyahu’s return to a position of power say for Israel as a whole?
  2. What are your thoughts on Ben Gvir and Smotrich getting high positions in his cabinet?
  3. Secretary of State Blinken pointed out the American support for the “two-state solution” has been consistent and will not change, despite the firm opposition of a majority of ministers in Israel’s new government. Do you think this will cause a conflict with the Biden administration?
  4. Outgoing Prime Minister Yair Lapid noted, “We pass on to you a state in excellent condition. Try not to ruin it, we’ll be right back.” What do you think he meant by that? Could he possibly try to return to the position in the future?
  5. Where can we learn more about you and your work with Shiloh Israel Children?
