House Republicans Approve “Born-Alive” Bill – and Democrats Are Furious (Guest: Jim Harden)

CompassCare CEO Jim Harden explains why the bill deserves more attention, and not the negative kind.

Just months following the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, House Republicans kept their promise and pushed forward a new initiative to help protect young babies born alive due to a botched abortion.

Following a partisan vote (220-210), Republican lawmakers have passed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 26), which will require healthcare physicians and doctors to provide assistance for infants born alive after a failed abortion—upholding their pre-existing duty to care.

While House Democrats spent considerable time vilifying pro-life people, claiming that, in propaganda consistent with pro-abortion terror group Jane’s Revenge, pro-life pregnancy centers are not medical providers and contribute to “misinformation that fuels the high infant and maternal mortality,” (Rep. Skyes). One Representative even laughably claims that giving medical care to babies born alive would endanger the health of the baby (Rep. Nadler). Similarly, Democrats insisted the bills were in direct opposition to abortion, ignoring the limited scope of H.R. 26 to just protect pro-life citizens and babies already born.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “Today, instead of joining Democrats to condemn all political violence, (House Republicans) chose to push their extreme anti-choice agenda,” she tweeted following its passing. “Democrats believe everyone deserves the freedom to access reproductive health services – without fear of violence, intimidation or harassment.”

Meanwhile, pro-abortion politicians have not denounced violence against pro-life pregnancy centers and people, but have fomented it. Sen. Mazie Hirono issued a “literal call to arms” against pro-life people last year in the midst of a massive pro-abortion crime wave, Sen. Warren accused pro-life pregnancy centers of torturing women, and even on the day of H.R. 26’s vote, Rep. Skyes accused pro-life pregnancy centers of contributing to maternal and infant mortality. While the FBI raids the homes of peaceful pro-life people and the DOJ indicts them of trumped-up FACE Act violations, pro-life people receive more death threats from the pro-abortion terrorist group known as Jane’s Revenge—the Democrat party’s new KKK.

What Pelosi and others fail to realize is that H.R. 26 and the Concurrent Resolution passed the same day and by similar margins protects the rights of citizens already born and, as such, ought to have been unanimously accepted. Given the common-sense content of both pieces of legislation, it seems the pro-abortion politicians in the Democratic party either 1) did not read the bills or 2) do not want pro-life people and infants surviving abortion protected.

With us now to speak more about the importance of the bill is Jim Harden, CEO of CompassCare, which provides an array of pregnancy services. His expertise is most welcome in this matter. (Daniel Tomlinson, an advancement manager for CompassCare, may fill in for Harden depending on availability.)

Q&A:

  1. Let’s talk about the Born-Alive Protection Act. What is the significance of this bill?
  2. Only one Democrat (Henry Cuellar of Texas) supported the bill, as it came right down to a vote of 220 to 210. What do you make of this?
  3. Pelosi labeled that this decision as “extreme.” Do you think that statement is overreaching?
  4. Why do you think politicians see this as an “extreme” bill in the first place?  Doesn’t the bill recognize the pre-existing duty of every doctor?
  5. Do you think this divide between Democrats and Republicans over the abortion issue will continue as 2023 goes on? What about the presidential election in 2024?
  6. CompassCare has recovered from the firebombing attack that took place in Buffalo last year, as the suspects have yet to be arrested. Any update on this? Is there someone looking further into the matter?
  7. For those that are interested in supporting CompassCare and learning more about the services they provide, where can they go?
