Nazi Contradiction Camp: 90 Jewish Figures from History Reveal Hypocrisy Behind Hitler’s Hate Machine
What if the history of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany looks very different when viewed through the lives of the Jews who crossed paths with the Nazi regime? Thomas Frederik, author of Hitler’s Jewish Biography: His Personal Contacts and Conflicts with Jews, uncovers the stories of no fewer than 90 Jewish figures whose lives intersected with Hitler’s and the Nazis, exposing a remarkable web of relationships, contradictions and inconsistencies behind the regime’s supposedly absolute hatred of Jews.
Turns out, that hatred didn’t apply toward all Jews.

Frederik’s research reveals a disturbing paradox: The Nazis preached a racial ideology that left no room for equivocation, yet their own actions repeatedly contradicted that supposedly uncompromising worldview. Hitler and his inner circle encountered Jewish people in professions, social circles and circumstances that challenged the simplistic racial categories at the heart of Nazi ideology. The resulting cognitive dissonance was profound and may help explain how an ideology built on irrational racial hatred could become increasingly obsessive and unhinged.
One extraordinary example is the story of Hessy Levinsons Taft. Born in 1934 to Jewish parents, Hessy was just six months old when a professional photographer took her picture. Later, the Nazi regime asked ten photographers to submit ten of their best baby photographs (100 babies in all) to identify what was supposedly the most beautiful “Aryan” baby. Hessy’s photographer submitted her photograph.
She won! And if the Nazis hadn’t so successfully instilled such fear and terror, they’d have been the world’s laughing stock with just this one example.
The Nazis had unwittingly selected a fully Jewish infant as their idealized example of Aryan beauty.
The episode is more than an astonishing historical irony. It illustrates the fundamental contradiction at the heart of Nazi racial thinking: The regime claimed it could identify supposedly superior and inferior human beings according to race, yet its own propaganda machinery could not even recognize the Jewish identity of the child it elevated as its own golden standard.
Hitler’s Jewish Biography offers a compelling way to revisit Nazi Germany through these largely overlooked personal intersections. Frederik can discuss the 90-plus Jewish figures uncovered in his research, the surprising relationships and encounters that complicate conventional narratives about Hitler, and the dangerous consequences of an ideology that was repeatedly undermined by reality.
Frederik is available to discuss how these extraordinary stories expose the contradictions, ignorance and irrationality embedded in Nazi racial ideology—and what they reveal about one of history’s darkest chapters.
