Though most of Congress’ laws seem to protect gun owners, some believe that the ATF – the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – could have its own agenda when it comes to how it deals with private gun owners.
Reports indicate that the group recently admitted that it was working on compiling approximately one billion records on gun owners, and even went as far as to harass certain private gun owners in an effort to crack down on gun trace records. One even recently received a visit in their home in Delaware, without even so much as a search warrant.
The move is the latest against private gun owners in an effort to crack down on active shooter events, though relations between the two are far and few between.
Speaking with us about this matter today is Stephen Willeford. Stephen serves as a spokesman for Gun Owners of America. You may recall in 2017 how he stopped the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise is certainly welcome in this matter.
Q&A:
- For a while now, the Gun Owners of America has been trying to abolish the ATF. What do you think was the breaking point where you simply said, “Enough is enough”?
- The ATF has fallen behind as of late, taking as long as two weeks to perform a gun trace. Does this just sum up the laziness of the group as a whole?
- How far is too far when the ATF attempts to investigate private gun owners? Doesn’t this come across as a violation of their rights?
- Speaking as a gun owner yourself and the “good guy with a gun,” how important is it for people to have the rights to arm themselves, especially in today’s climate?
- So many have spoken out about the effectiveness of concealed-carry, especially with the way things are going these days. But the ATF seems hellbent against this. Why do you think that is?
- What would you say to someone that’s trying to defend the ATF as “just doing their job”?
- Where can we learn more about you, as well as the Gun Owners of America?
