Willeford knows this better than almost anyone. In 2017, he famously retrieved his rifle and confronted the gunman responsible for the massacre at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. After wounding the shooter, Willeford joined another civilian in pursuing the fleeing suspect, helping bring one of the deadliest church shootings in American history to an end.
