Gun Owners of America Stands By the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act

Spokesman Stephen Willeford explains the importance of the act, which should be of high importance when Donald Trump returns to the Presidency in January.

At a time when many are questioning the gun rights of private citizens, one particular act looks to stand out when Donald Trump retakes the Presidency next month.

The Gun Owners of America have announced that they endorse Senator John Cornyn’s National Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. This will serve as an important legislation not only to those that support the Second Amendment, but also Trump.

Such an act, according to Trump, “will protect the right of self-defense everywhere it is under siege. And I will sign concealed carry reciprocity. Your Second Amendment does not end at the state line.”

He further added, “This is how I will bring back public safety to America.”

But why should the Act be passed? The GOA broke it down into three major reasons:

  1. ALL states are now “shall-issue” following the New York State Pistol and Rifle Association v. Bruen Supreme Court decision, meaning that all states now grant concealed carry licenses to anyone who applies and can lawfully own a firearm.
  2. Non-residents can now obtain concealed carry permits in 49 states due to GOA lawsuits against California and New York, leaving Hawaii as the only state to bar non-residents from lawfully carrying firearms for self-defense.
  3. A majority of the United States have enacted Constitutional Carry or Permitless Carry laws.

No doubt there will be those that argue against it. But it’s clear that a change is needed for a better America.

Joining us now to discuss this situation further is Stephen Willeford, who currently serves as spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. Stephen is the “hero with a gun” from the Sutherland Springs incident in 2017, which he has since co-written a book about. We welcome him to the show!

  2. You’ve noted in the past how Constitutional-Carry – or Concealed Carry – is a vital solution to “active shooter” events and other criminal activities. Why do you believe it would make such an impact?
  3. Do you believe Trump will follow through on his word and push to get the Act signed into law?
  4. What kind of arguments do you feel will come from states that are heavy on their gun laws? Could they possibly serve as an obstacle when it comes to getting the act signed?

  6. You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
