A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America explains why the group is fighting against Trump’s administration on 2A rights, despite his progress on gun rights.
There’s no question that Donald Trump has done quite a bit for 2A gun rights with his return to office earlier this year. That said, however, the Gun Owners of America find themselves in legal quarrels with him over certain issues.
In particular, three individual matters stand out.
The first involves concealed pistol license requirements in Michigan, in which the group notes, “We sued Biden’s ATF for interfering with concealed carry holders. While the Trump DOJ issued a temporary fix, it’s NOT permanent. A future Kamala Harris administration could wipe it out overnight.”
The next is a fight over what’s being called the “Engaged In the Business” rule. “We secured an injunction blocking Biden’s scheme to force every private sale through a background check. But the DOJ is dragging its feet on withdrawing their appeal – an appeal that, if dropped, we believe could lead to a permanent victory in court,” then group noted.
And finally, there’s an ongoing battle with the Zero Tolerance Policy. “This Biden-era nightmare crushed small gun dealers and revoked hundreds of FFL licenses. While Trump’s ATF recently repealed this abusive policy (thanks to pressure from GOA), they’re trying to dismiss our lawsuit as ‘moot’ rather than locking in permanent protections.”
A spokesman for the group – either Mark Jones or Stephen Willeford – joins us now to discuss these legal actions further. We welcome them to the show!
Q&A on 2A:
- How would you rate Trump’s performance overall when it comes to restoring gun rights?
- That said, why do you believe he hasn’t made any movement on the three main issues involved here? Is he simply too busy, or could he have overlooked them?
- Tell us what’s happening with Michigan and the concealed pistol license matters. How come the state hasn’t done more to resolve what’s happening?
- Then we have Engaged In the Business. Why is it that the Department of Justice seems to be moving slow to drop what’s happening with private sales and background checks?
- Last but certainly not least, can gun dealers overcome what’s happened with the Zero Tolerance policy? How do you think that particular matter should be resolved?
