A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation explains why the latest move by Florida lawmakers is the right one.
At a time when several states are creating barrierswith extremely limiting gun bans, Florida is moving forward with a Constitutional-Carry logic in mind.
This week, Florida lawmakers introduced legislation that would allow people to carry a concealed firearm without the need for a government-issue permit.
In a recent press conference, Republican State Representative Chuck Brannan explained, “Our right to bear arms, of course, is enshrined in the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The bill that I will file later today continues to advance Second Amendment freedoms through legislation known as ‘constitutional carry.’”
He continued, “This bill is a big step to help the average law-abiding citizen to keep from having to go through the hoops of getting a permit from the government to carry their weapons.”
There are many politicians that protest the bill, insisting that it will merely put more guns on the streets. But Brennan remained confident, explaining criminals “are getting guns anyway,” and this serves as a protective measure to fight back.
Speaking with us now about the bill is a spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation, a group that firmly believes in everyone’s right to bear arms. Their expertise in all things gun rights should prove useful in this discussion.
Q&A:
- It seems at a time when some states are imposing gun bans, Florida is going all in with a Constitutional-Carry bill. Do you believe this is the right course?
- You’ve spoken in the past about the effectiveness of Constitutional-Carry citizens against “active shooters,” compared to a gun ban. Explain to us why it’s a better way to move forward.
- Some politicians believe that this is merely a ploy to put “more guns on the street,” as it were. What argument would you have for someone with this statement?
- Right now, half the United States currently supports Constitutional-Carry. Should Florida’s bill prove effective, could others “turn the tide,” as it were, and support the initiative as well?
- Some argue that the need to apply for a government permit is a necessity. What do you think about this?
- Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation and its members?
