Epoch TV’s New Docudrama Gender Transformation: The Untold Realities Takes a Close Look At Younger Transgenderism

Co-director Tobias Elvhage discusses the new film and the implications that come with transgenderism at a young age.

Epoch TV has recently debuted its latest feature docudrama, Gender Transformation: The Untold Realities, which takes a closer look at the topic of transgenderism and youth. It does so by exploring the roles played by the educational system, the medical and pharmaceutical industries, the financial interests behind the transgender movement, and the societal and political mechanisms being utilized.

It closely follows the journey of several transgender people in their youth, as well as their families. It shows what happens with some youths that decide to go through the transformation – and the implications that come with it. It includes analysis from a variety of experts, including endocrinologist Dr. Michael Laidlaw; physician Dr. Katherine Welch; and author and public speaker Dr. Miriam Grossman, among others.

Co-director/producer Tobias Elvhage explained, “I chose to direct and produce this film after watching a shorter investigative documentary made by Swedish Television called The Trans Children. Through this program I got to understand how badly puberty blockers and cross hormones can affect children. The more I investigated, the more I saw that this had become a sensitive and even political subject, and I wanted to understand the mechanisms behind.”

The docudrama made its debut on Epoch TV last month and is available for viewing here. It also earned the award for Best POV Documentary at the Manhattan Film Festival, where it made its debut.

Elvhage joins us now to discuss the documentary further.

Q&A:

  1. Transgenderism is certainly a controversial subject right now, especially when it comes to the involvement of youth. Is that why you wanted to explore it further for Transformation? Or was there a different reason?
  2. What do you think audiences will take away from this film? Will they have a better understanding behind the choices made by these youths? Or will they be more concerned by the implications from those choices? Perhaps both?
  3. Do you believe transgender people receive way too much flack these days from the choices they’ve made, especially when it comes to social media?
  4. How has the feedback been for the film thus far? Are you planning to debut it at any other film festivals? Or maybe even a theatrical release?
  5. As CEO of Fenix Film, you’ve also worked on productions such as the “haute cuisine” docuseries Taste of France and the film Pure Life. How do you go about deciding what subjects should be covered for production, and what’s the most challenging part of putting them together?
  6. Tell us more about the award you recently won at the Manhattan Film Festival.
  7. Where can we learn more about Transformation: The Untold Realities?
