Dismantling Global White Privilege Guest: Chandran Nair

Chandran Nair is available via Zoom, Skype or Phone

Intro:  Our guest is Chandran Nair, author of the new book, “Dismantling Global White Privilege, Equity for a Post-Western World,” with a foreword by Winnie Byanyima, executive director of UNAIDS and undersecretary-general of the United Nations. While the eyes of the world are on the Russian-Ukraine war, what’s rarely reported is that it is nearly a 100% White Person’s war. Vladamir Putin is White. Most of Europe is White. Most of Russia and Ukraine are White.

This brings up the White elephant in the room: White Privilege. What gives Putin White Privilege to invade Ukraine? And why should Ukrainians be due more sympathy and world attention than those involved in the many Black or Native wars and skirmishes that go on in the world daily? White Privilege. White Attention. A White worldview. That’s according to Chandran Nair, author of the new book, “Dismantling Global White Privilege, Equity for a Post-Western World.” Welcome Chandran.

Q&A:

  1. Do you believe that the Russian invasion of Ukraine truly gets more world attention primarily because it is white-on-white violence?
  1. In your uncompromising new book, you reveal that the innate superiority of White people and Western culture, once the driving force behind imperialism, is now woven into the very fabric of globalization. Explain what you mean by that.
  1. In your book, you say White superiority is so insidious that even many non-White people have internalized it, judging themselves by an alien standard. Tell us more.y
  1. You have written that White Privilege has no rival in longevity, global reach, the harm done, and continuing subversion of other cultures and societies. That’s a relatively strong statement. Can you defend it?
  1. Your book outlines what you consider a comprehensive look at the destructive influence of global White privilege. You examined its impact on geopolitics, the reframing of world history, international business practices, entertainment, the news media, sports, and fashion. Even environmentalism, you say, has been corrupted and dominated by a “White Savior” mentality. Technologies and practices built or birthed in the West will save the underdeveloped, poorly governed non-Western world.
  1. You propose to break the power of White privilege. You bluntly say it must be dismantled—not just because it is an injustice, but because we will be creating a post-Western world that has less conflict is more united. This new world, you say, will be better able to respond to the existential challenges facing all of us. Expand on that.
  1. Tell us more about your book, “Dismantling Global White Privilege, Equity for a Post-Western World,” and where we may pick up a copy.
