Donald Trump’s on again/off again workings toward a deal with Iran leave many wondering if one will be made.
At one point, it appeared that Donald Trump was set to make some sort of “final determination” on what to do with his ongoing negotiations with Iran. However, after promising to do so, he still had yet to make said determination, and is still apparently “seeking changes” to the deal, leaving many – including Founder and President of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin – wondering what will happen.
- Trump was set to make a “final determination” just at the start of the weekend, but after two hours, chose not to.
- A senior U.S. official has noted that “There will be a deal. The imminence of it, we’ll see,” but many factors are still playing a part. Trump believes a deal will follow as well.
- The two big factors that are standing in the way of a deal involve the Islamic Republic’s nuclear material (including uranium) and how traffic will be affected in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump still believes that a deal can be made, but is looking at two factors that currently stand in the way. The first obviously involves the Strait of Hormuz, and how traffic will be affected once a deal is struck. The second involves the large amount of uranium currently being stowed by the Islamic Republic, as its nuclear arsenal remains a threat, particularly to Israel.
The current deal could take days to finalize, if it does end up taking shape. It’s been promised for weeks now, though conflict continues to still be ongoing. And there’s also the question of how Israel benefits from it, as Trump has stated it’s still playing a part, and several countries could be asked to improve relations with them once finalized.
A senior administration official has explained that they are just as confident as Trump as a deal being made. “The imminence of (the deal), we’ll see. We’re willing to wait so the president gets what he asked for. It could be a week. It could be less. It could be more.”
So…can a deal be made? And, for that matter, how could it affect Israel? Rubin joins us now to discuss the situation further. Welcome, Mayor Rubin!
Q&A:
- How confident are you that Trump will be able to strike a deal with Iran?
- There are many questioning if a deal could ever be made, considering how many times Trump has promised it’s coming close and never reaches fruition. Do you believe patience should be a factor here?
- There’s also been a great deal of discussion surrounding Israel’s involvement in this deal. Some believe they have been completely shut out by the U.S., but do you believe they still play a vital part here?
- What about Netanyahu? He’s been a long-time supporter of Trump, but are you surprised he’s not getting more say in the deal?
- If a deal cannot be reached between the two sides, how much would could the conflict get? And how badly could it affect Israel, especially with Iran’s nuclear capabilities?
