The spokesman for Gun Owners of America encourages the state’s Republicans to hold strong against the new Governor.
Wisconsin has been known as a state with strong support for private gun owners. But that could very well change in 2025.
A new report suggests that, with a new Governor in office, Tony Evers, the state could very well see the introduction of a red flag gun control law. “When the political dynamic shifts in the Legislature, we have a better shot at not only introducing the (red flag) legislation but giving it a fair public hearing,” said Dora Drake, who serves as current state representative and senator-elect. “The people of Wisconsin overwhelmingly support red flag laws.”
But what about those that want to preserve their gun owning rights? Nik Clark, who serves as founder and chairman of a local gun advocacy group, noted, “If someone is willing to harm someone else, they don’t care about any laws. We spend so much time on trying to prevent things, and we need to spend more time on preparedness to address them.”
Joining us now to discuss this matter further is Stephen Willeford, who currently serves as spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. Stephen is the “hero with a gun” from the Sutherland Springs incident in 2017, which he has since co-written a book about. We welcome him to the show!
Q&A:
- A New Year is almost upon us and we’re already hearing that Wisconsin could see a new red flag gun control law introduced. How bad would this be for the state?
- Is there a possibility with its Republican majority in its Congress that the red flag law could be knocked down, if it is in fact introduced by Governor Evers?
- Why are so many states continuing to try and introduce restrictive gun laws when the Second Amendment so clearly protects the rights of private gun owners?
- Isn’t there another way around the problem? You’ve often talked about how Constitutional-Carry (or Concealed-Carry as some call it) would be more effective against “active shooters” and other criminals. Can you elaborate further on this?
- You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
- Where can people find your book?
- Where can we learn more about you, as well as Gun Owners of America?
