Could Hamas Finally Be Ready For a Ceasefire Deal With Israel (Guest: David Rubin)

The former Mayor of Shiloh discusses the latest possibility of a ceasefire, and what could stop it from happening.

There has been a great deal of discussion in the past of a potential ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, though certain factors – possibly from both sides – have kept it from happening. However, the Associated Press recently reported that it’s possible one could take place after all.

Hamas reportedly provided initial approval of a U.S. backed proposal for a ceasefire with Israel, thanks to the dropping of a key demand that Israel drop its commitment to a complete end to the war. As such, Israel may finally meet to its terms.

Though negotiations are ongoing, the deal, brokered by Washington, could very well come with a “full and complete” six-week ceasefire that would allow sick and female hostages to be released, provided that Israel is ready to release hundreds of Palestinian soldiers. In addition, Israel forces would likely withdraw from Gaza, allowing “displaced” citizens to return to their homes.

Again, it’s a potential start, but the real question is if it can be followed through.

Here to discuss this potential deal today is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.

  3. What do you think about Israel potentially releasing Palestinian soldiers in exchange for sick or female hostages? Is that a good deal?
  4. Where do you see the fight between Israel and Hamas going in the months ahead? Could this cease-fire be a step forward towards peace?
