The law enforcement veteran discusses the potential threat, and what could possibly be done to stop it.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been attempting to infiltrate the United States over the past couple of years. But the FBI suggests that a group of Chinese hackers could be coming close to attacking U.S. infrastructure.
A report from Reuters indicates that these hackers are waiting “for just the right moment to deal a devastating blow,” according to FBI Director Christopher Wray.
A group known as Volt Typhoon has already infiltrated a number of American companies across telecommunications, energy, water and other sectors, developing the “ability to physically wreak havoc on our critical infrastructure at a time of its choosing.”
He added, “Its plan is to land low blows against civilian infrastructure to try to induce panic.”
While China has claimed that Volt Typhoon is actually a criminal ransomware group, there’s no knowing what kind of connection they have with the CCP.
