Could China Be On the Verge of a Financial Crisis? (Guest: Nan Su)

The Epoch Times’ senior investigative reporter discusses the country’s monetary struggles, and if that could have an effect on the CCP.

Just like the United States, China appears to be facing a form of financial struggle when it comes to real estate. And that could fold over into the other monetary problems the country is facing.

According to this report from Nikkei Asia, The World Bank recently cut back its growth forecast for China in terms of what’s to come with 2024. This is mainly due to the growing amount of debt from real estate loans, including China Evergrande – one of the country’s biggest developers.

This has led to faltering confidence in the performance of president Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party, who have already come under fire with their ongoing conflict with the United States, amongst other countries. Not to mention Jinping’s recent “zero COVID” policies, and reported struggles with the country’s leader.

As a result, the country could find itself in a much bigger financial crisis – and that could lead to potential desperation in an effort for it to show strength. Joining us now to discuss this further is Nan Su, a senior investigative reporter for The Epoch Times. Nan specializes in all things China, so his expertise will certainly be welcome in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. First off, how dire would you say the real estate market is in China right now? Are people just not interested in buying properties anymore, or is it more of trying to find that right financial balance?
  2. How does what’s happening with real estate tie in with the confidence in leader Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party?
  3. How bad would you say China’s financial picture is compared to, say, the United States?
  4. Could this potentially lead to desperate acts on Jinping’s part? There have been rumors about a potential military strike on nearby Taiwan, and possibly even a war with the United States.
  5. Where do you see China going over the next year? Could it possibly come under financial ruin? Or will Jinping possibly find a way out?
  6. Speaking of uneasiness with China, you recently contributed to a new Epoch Times documentary called The Final WarTell us more about it and why it’s such a compelling subject with everything that’s happening right now.
  7. Where can we learn more about you and see your work over on The Epoch Times?
