A Second Amendment representative doesn’t believe the proposed ban by Colorado Democrats will get very far.
Another day, another state attempting to ban “assault weapons” from sale.
A pair of Colorado Democrats are attempting to introduce a bill in Colorado that will ban the sale and transfer of “assault weapons.” This comes on the heels of the state seeing a number of “active shooter” events, including one in Colorado Springs late last year.
State Reps Elisabeth Epps and Senator Rhonda Fields introduced the bill, which, if passed, would prohibit the “manufacturing, importing, purchasing, selling, offering to sell, or transferring ownership of an assault weapon. And it would ban rapid-fire trigger activator(s).”
So far, nine states already have “assault weapons” bans in place, including New York, Illinois and Hawaii. However, they have come under scrutiny for violating the Second Amendment of the Constitution, which could lead to their eventual overturning.
Colorado is no exception, as gun groups have already spoken out against the potential ban. Taylor Rhodes, who serves with the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, noted, “This unconstitutional piece of legislation was introduced as an emotional response to the horrific act of terror in Colorado Springs … law-abiding Colorado gun owners will strongly oppose all attempts to ban any firearm or firearm accessory. … We won’t back down or cut any deals.”
A representative from Second Amendment Foundation, a group that firmly believes in everyone’s right to bear arms in the United States, joins us now to discuss this potential ban further – and why it’s unlikely to make any traction.
Q&A:
- Why do you think these states are still trying to approve “assault weapons” bans, despite the fact that the Second Amendment of the Constitution clearly gives everyone the right to bear arms?
- Do you believe Colorado isn’t looking into a deeper solution for these “active shooter” events? Like, for instance, citizens that practice Concealed-Carry (or Constitutional-Carry, as some call it)?
- Do you believe this ban will take effect? And if so, how long do you think it will last before it’s knocked down in court?
- President Biden is continuing to push for some sort of “assault weapons” ban across the United States, though there’s been no word on his progress. Do you believe the Constitution is preventing him from enabling any plan he might have in place?
- Is it possible that other states may try to apply for some sort of “assault weapons” ban? Or, at the very least, rules that would make it tougher to acquire such weapons?
- Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation and its members?
