China’s Long-Term Plans On Its Economy Involve a Great Deal of Control – But What About Balance? (Guest: Nan Su)

The Epoch Times’ investigative reporter Nan Su discusses what’s in store for Xi Jinping’s third term.

Now that Xi Jinping has been sworn in for a third term with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), many are wondering what his next move will be – and it looks to involve taking control through economy.

news piece on CNBC explained how Jinping and the CCP could try and balance the economy in the future, but there are still questions about long-term effects – and what kind of control he will take as a result.

Mark Jolley of CCB International Securities explained to CNBC, “China has reached that level of its development where a lot of emerging markets typically find the going getting tougher.”

Ethan Harris, who published a note through BofA Global Research, had a lot to add as well. “On both sides of the Pacific we hear a lot of wishful thinking that decoupling will promote rather than hurt domestic growth. We disagree. Decoupling is a negative sum game that hurts both countries. It means abandoning comparative advantage and stranding capital.”

This leads to a lot of questions, like how much China will be involved with global economy in the future – as well as its own impact regarding freedom of speech and how that can spread over into the media and entertainment industry.

With us now to discuss this further is Nan Su, an investigative reporter for The Epoch Times. Nan is an expert on all things China, and his expertise will certainly be welcome here.

Q&A:

  1. Let’s just get right into it. With Xi Jinping now serving a third term with the CCP, what will that mean for the future of China as a whole?
  2. How do you think its impact will go in terms of both local and global economy in the months ahead? And if you can look even further, maybe even years?
  3. Do you believe Jinping will try to control freedom of speech more within his country? What kind of effect do you believe this will have for the media and entertainment industry?
  4. Let’s talk U.S. involvement. Do you think that Jinping’s upcoming approach could have an effect when it comes to Biden and his policies? Could we see a growing friction between the two countries as a result?
  5. Mark Jolley believes that China’s own growing development could get in the way of other countries trying to follow suit. Do you believe this is the case?
  6. Why do some experts believe that decoupling is being so heavily considered, but could also serve as a negative when it comes to moving things forward?
  7. Where can we learn more about you and see your work over on The Epoch Times?
