China Isn’t Too Pleased With Germany Calling Xi Jinping a “Dictator” – Even Though It Makes Sense (Guest: Nan Su)

The Epoch Times’ senior investigative reporter discusses the labeling and why China may be taking such offense to it.

With the way that Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have been acting over the past year or so, it appears some people are taking the route of labeling him a “dictator.” And China doesn’t seem too pleased with that.

During a recent interview with Fox News, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock used the term when asked about Jinping. When she was asked about Russia invading Ukraine, she noted, “If Putin were to win this war, what sign would that be for other dictators in the world, like Xi, like the Chinese president?”

Since then, China has summoned Patricia Flor, who serves as Germany’s ambassador for the country, to speak against Baerbock’s words, noting that Beijing was “strongly dissatisfied” with the terminology, and that they “firmly opposes” them.

That said, the feeling of a potential dictatorship seems to be going around, especially considering China’s recent actions against Taiwan. And it’s not the first time that a country representative has used that term for Xi Jinping, as President Joe Biden also referred to him as such back in June. (Beijing didn’t take too fondly to that wording as well.)

Joining us now to discuss this further is Nan Su, a senior investigative reporter for The Epoch Times. Mr. Su is a specialist in all things China, so his expertise will certainly prove useful with this matter.

Q&A:

  1. In your personal opinion, do you see Xi Jinping as a “dictator”? Or is there another term that defines him, you think?
  2. First the U.S. and now Germany have labeled Jinping as a “dictator.” Do they have proper reasoning for doing so? Does Beijing really have that much reason to be upset over the labeling?
  3. Considering the actions of China over the past year or so – particularly against the United States and Taiwan – is it fair to say that the Chinese Communist Party is seeing some form of dictatorship?
  4. Could this have some sort of effect in the trading partnership between China and Berlin? Or will tempers cool down?
  5. Is there some possibility that we’ll see even stronger military action by the Chinese Communist Party in the year ahead against Taiwan? Perhaps even the United States?
  6. Speaking of uneasiness with China, you recently contributed to a new Epoch Times documentary called The Final WarTell us more about it and why it’s such a compelling subject with everything that’s happening right now.
  7. Where can we learn more about you and see your work over on The Epoch Times?
  8. You can visit our official website at http://www.theepochtimes.com. There are also various documentaries available over on Epoch TV.
