The Epoch Times’ investigative reporter Nan Su discusses the hack, as well as interesting technology that somehow slips past President Biden’s Beijing technology ban.
At a time when tension between China and the United States is growing exponentially, it appears technology is playing a big part in it.
A new report reveals that hackers working with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army have reportedly intruded a number of computer systems within the United States, including ones that tie in with water, transportation, communications and power. It’s a part of the country’s Volt Typhoon cyber campaign, which the United States has been keeping a close eye on.
While the intrusions haven’t caused any problems just yet, a specific attack on systems in Hawaii could very well disrupt operations in the Pacific Fleet, if strong enough. For that matter, the strength of the campaign could continue if the tension doesn’t slow down anytime soon.
The U.S. government has been trying to keep better tabs on these attacks, including stronger monitoring and improvements to authentication methods. However, one interesting thing has slipped through the cracks.
Reuters has reported that Brite Semiconductor has managed to purchase U.S. software and somehow attain American financial backing, which, as a result, could override rules put in place by President Joe Biden to block American support for Beijing’s semiconductor industry. Could others possibly follow suit?
Joining us now to discuss this further is Nan Su, a senior investigative reporter for The Epoch Times. Nan is an expert in all things China, so he makes for an ideal person for this discussion. We welcome him to the show!
