Cease(fire) and Desist?

Despite Israel and Hezbollah reaching an agreement, some are wondering just how effective this latest ceasefire is.

Following a deal between Iran and the United States earlier this week, Israel and Hezbollah decided to move forward with its own deal, extending its ongoing ceasefire. But based on actions carried out by the latter, some – including Founder and President of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin – are wondering just how much it’ll stay in effect.

  • Israel and Hezbollah struck a deal to continue the ongoing ceasefire on Friday, according to a U.S. official.
  • However, since that time, Hezbollah has launched strikes, resulting in the IDF targeting them, resulting in at least 27 people killed.
  • Both sides are indicating that the other fired first, leaving many to wonder just how long this current ceasefire deal will last.

The deal was made just before the weekend, per a U.S. official. Furthermore, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) have chosen to stay in southern Lebanon, in an effort to keep the peace. But it didn’t take long for Hezbollah to try and make a move, forcing the IDF to strike while staying “committed to the ceasefire agreement in accordance with the directives of the political echelon.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu noted that the attacks came following Hezbollah’s first strikes, and warned that if the group “attacks us again, we will strike it forcefully once more.”

Hezbollah insists it had “adhered to the ceasefire,” but with the IDF’s counter actions in place, there’s a lot of question going around. Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leither even confirmed, “Hezbollah broke the ceasefire, not Israel. Terrorists lie.”

With that, how long will the current ceasefire last? And, for that matter, to what extent?

Rubin joins us now to discuss the situation further. Welcome, Mayor Rubin!
