Hawk Newsome, the co-founder of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York, made the threats following a heated meeting with Adams at Brooklyn Borough Hall that was livestreamed on Instagram.
The former NYPD captain said he’ll be reinstating a revamped version of the undercover anti-crime unit that was disbanded at the height of widespread police protests last year.
“If they think they are going back to the old ways of policing then we’re going to take to the streets again,” New York BLM co-founder Hawk Newsome said following the meeting.
“As a former NYPD Captain, Mayor-elect Adams knows from experience that the only way to attack the sharp increase of violent crime (almost 20% in just one year) is to ‘Refund the Police’ and restore law and order. This would be through the reinstitution of this 600 officer specialized team,” according to Michael Letts, Founder of InVest USA.
