The Founder of Reconnecting Ministries discusses what both sides are looking for – and if a middle ground can be reached.
Even though Israel and the United States have similar goals in terms of finding peace, they’re on very different roads to get there.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously pledged that, in an effort to get more aid into Gaza, the end goal remains in sight – the complete destruction of Hamas. Though his speech drew cheers from graduating Israeli soldiers, it also brought some skepticism on how to reach that goal.
Part of that came from President Joe Biden, who questioned Israel’s potential decision to attack the city of Rafah to eradicate Hamas.
During his State of the Union address earlier this week, Biden noted, “Israel has an added burden because Hamas hides and operates among the civilian population like cowards under hospitals, daycare centers, and all the like. Israel also has a fundamental responsibility, though, to protect innocent civilians in Gaza.”
He added, “As we look to the future, the only real solution to the situation is a two-state solution (between Israel and the Palestinians) over time.”
Netanyahu’s solution leans more towards the absolute ending of Hamas, while Biden thinks a more diplomatic approach is the best way to go. So, who has the best path to peace?
Joining us now to discuss this further is Grant Berry, founder of Reconnecting Ministries and the author and producer of the Romans 911 project. His expertise on the matter make him a great subject for this interview. Welcome, Mr. Berry.
Q&A:
- Do you think Netanyahu has a point when it comes to the complete eradication of Hamas? Or is he going too far?
- Likewise, while Biden’s two-state solution may look good to some of his peers, not everyone agrees that it would work. What do you think?
- If you were in charge of a resolution to bring peace to Israel, how would you go about it?
- Thousands have died in this conflict between Israel and Hamas, and that death toll could rise if an attack on Rafah takes place. What is your takeaway from all of this?
