Even with active shooter events on the rise, there seem to be more and more armed private citizens that are stepping up and doing something about it.
On August 7th, a 22-year old man in West Palm Beach, Florida was threatening to open fire on a crowd. However, a legally armed private citizen was able to stop him before he could hurt anyone.
This is the latest incident in which someone was able to thwart such an event, saving lives in the process. What’s more, it opens up the possibilities of concealed-carry being an effective tool against active shooter events in the future, according to several experts.
To discuss this in further detail, we’ve invited a spokesperson from the 2nd Amendment Foundation to provide their perspective, and why concealed-carry should be given more consideration than the current “ban assault weapons” initiatives making their way through Washington, D.C.
Q&A:
- We seem to be seeing more incidents in which legally armed citizens are doing their part to stop would-be active shooters from hurting people. Do you think they’ve just reached a point where they need to fight back, or are they just doing their duty?
- Why do you think the press isn’t giving coverage to these events? Are they worried from the backlash that could come from anti-gun groups or politicians?
- Does this latest thwarting of an active shooter provide further evidence that concealed-carry could be an effective solution in stopping incidents like these?
