Another Police Department Has Shut Down Due To Budgetary Reasons – And Unnecessary Ones At That (Guest: Michael Letts)

The law enforcement veteran discusses what recently happened with the Marble Hill Police Department, and how it could’ve been avoided.

The “defund the police” campaign that started back in 2020 has done catastrophic damage to police forces across the country. And it may be one of the key reasons why the city of Marble Hill, MO no longer has a police force.

Back in late August, the entire department for that specific police force tendered their resignations, leaving an entire 1,300+ city to rely on nearby services from Bollinger County. And the reason for their resignation? Budget restraints put in place by the city.

The Sheriff’s Department is reportedly working to “negotiate a resolution to ensure that law enforcement services will continue to be provided” with city officials. But apparently, that’s still ongoing.

Bollinger County Sheriff Casey Graham noted in a statement, “The Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office is confident that we can negotiate a resolution to ensure that law enforcement services will continue to be provided to the City of Marble Hill by our agency without interruption or interference in the daily operations already maintained.”

The real question, however, is if the city will provide assistance. After all, we’ve seen scenarios in the past where budgets have drained so badly that thousands of officers have quit, and entire small-town police departments have gone the way of the dodo.

Joining us now to discuss the situation further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is President, Founder and CEO of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various programs.

His expertise in all things law and order make him an ideal guest on this subject.

Q&A:

  1. Why are so many city officials believing in the theory of “defund the police”? Are they trying to appease the popular vote? Or is it an excuse to use money elsewhere?
  2. Do these officials not realize the catastrophic damage done, with officers leaving their posts and police departments, like Marble Hill’s, shutting down?
  3. What will happen to Marble Hill now that they have to rely on a police force from another county?
  4. Could this have been avoided? Should the city simply have allowed for a much bigger budget to allow them to operate?
  5. We’ve seen thousands of officer resignations because of this. Will we likely see even more fallout until President Biden finally decides to give budgeting to the police, as he promised long ago?
  6. Tell us more about InVest USA, and why support for fellow officers is so important right now.
  7. Where can we learn more about InVest USA, and how those interested can help their fellow officers.
    1. You can visit our official InVest USA website, and learn more on the official Invest USA Twitter account. You can also learn about my new initiative at RestoringJustice.US, where we discuss lawful issues surrounding citizens of the United States.
