A New Report Reveals That People Think Enforcement of Existing Gun Laws Would Work Better Than Creating New Ones

A member of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms explains this Rasmussen survey is something officials should look over.

With many cities trying to enforce newer, more strict gun laws, a large number of citizens would rather see them honoring older ones that have worked for years.

new Rasmussen survey revealed that 57 percent of voters believe stricter enforcement of existing gun laws would be more effective than creating new ones that create unnecessary restrictions. This is comparison to 30 percent that feel that the new ones would be better. And keep in mind, this survey was taken after the tragic Maine shooting that took place a few days ago.

Alan Gottlieb, the chairman for the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, noted in a statement, “Rasmussen did this survey after the Maine tragedy, so it was definitely on everyone’s mind when they responded to the survey. We’ve maintained for decades that if existing gun laws were enforced, we wouldn’t need a constant stream of new laws, with additional restrictions on law-abiding citizens, which have really not prevented such events, as gun control proponents invariably promise when they push their latest schemes.

“As further evidence of a fundamental partisan disconnect in this country,” Gottlieb continued. “Rasmussen also found that 44 percent of Democrats think it is possible to completely prevent mass shootings, but that opinion is shared by only 21 percent of Republicans and 19 percent of Independent voters. On the other hand, 66 percent of GOP voters and 63 percent of Independents say it’s not possible, while 41 percent of Democrats acknowledge it likely is not possible.”

To conclude, Gottlieb noted, “Passing a new, feel-good law only creates the illusion something has been done. In reality, such knee-jerk legislation accomplishes nothing and sets the public up for more horror when another incident occurs, after which anti-gun politicians repeat the process, fooling their constituents all over again while steadily eroding the Second Amendment and perpetuating a problem they know their policies can’t solve.”

A representative for the CCRKBA joins us now to discuss this poll further.

Q&A:

  1. First off, why do you believe it’s so important for older gun laws to be honored, rather than create new ones?
  2. Are new guns laws seemingly based more around restrictions instead of actually honoring the rights of private gun owners? As a matter of safety?
  3. Several states that tried to pass gun laws in an effort to lower violence, but they seem to have little to no effect. Why do you think they keep trying, despite this?
  4. Most gun laws seem to be knocked down anyway, due to the Second Amendment. Why don’t more government types seem to be aware of this?
  5. You’ve spoken for the longest time about the effectiveness of Concealed-Carry, or Constitutional-Carry as some would call it. Why is it the best solution?
  6. Where can people learn more about the CCRKBA and its beliefs?
