The former Mayor of Shiloh discusses a recent photo of hostages released by Hamas, trying to use emotional leverage against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
As Israel continues to fight in Gaza City, Hamas has sunken to a new low in an effort to try and manipulate the public against them.
The group recently released a “Farewell” photo of the remaining 47 Israeli hostages within its grasp, with each one being labeled as “Ron Arad,” an Israeli Air Force investigator who was captured back in 1986. Each one has also been given a number.
The text in the photo clearly blames Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that his rejection of any sort of ceasefire-hostage deal is to blame. The IDF Chief of Staff was also mentioned for going ahead with the ongoing strikes in Gaza City.
It notes, “Because of Netanyahu’s refusal, and (IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal) Zamir’s capitulation, a parting image as the military operation in Gaza City begins.”
With that, many are now wondering about the fate of the remaining hostages, in which only 20 are rumored to still be alive. A statement from al-Qassam Brigades added, “The commencement of this criminal operation and its expansion means that you will not receive any prisoner, neither alive nor dead, and their fate will be the same as that of (Ron Arad).”
What does this manipulation say about Hamas’ current standing in the ongoing war? Joining us now to discuss this further is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.
Q&A:
- Once again, it seems that Hamas is turning to manipulation in an effort to strike back against Israel. What are your thoughts on the release of this “Farewell” photo?
- Do you believe any of the hostages are still alive? And, for that matter, is there any way that Hamas will release them from their grasp in that condition, or is it too late?
- What about the group’s refusal to accept any wrongdoing and continually blaming Netanyahu for what’s happening in Israel right now?
- How concerning is it to see more protests growing in favor of Hamas, especially considering their brutal actions against Israelis nearly two years ago?
- Where do you see this conflict ultimately ending up, especially considering the progress that Israel is making in Gaza City at the moment?
- Tell us more about the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund and how it can help those in need.
