A New Approach To Leadership With Author Gareth Gwyn

The investigative filmmaker and writer explains how her new book You Are Us: How To Build Bridges In a Polarized World came about, and the importance of learning through both that and workshops.

Now more than ever, it’s helpful to see connections can bridge cultural divisions – especially when it comes to the changing landscape of business environments as a whole. That’s where author and investigative filmmaker Gareth Gwyn is putting her best foot forward.

In her new book, You Are Us: How To Build Bridges In a Polarized World discusses real stories based on candid accounts of stereotypically vilified and victimized individuals, which, in turn, provide insight into uncovering our opportunities for inner change. That’s something that can prove tremendously useful to many, especially with people looking for new employment in the wake of a changing economic landscape and the fallout from COVID.

The book, now available at Amazon, contains “stories of reckoning with trauma, pain, and socialized identity that reveal how inner change can affect societal reconciliation; how it directly transforms a community, workplace culture, and society as a whole.” People these days can certainly relate to lessons such as these, especially with everything happening in the world today.

On top of this, Gareth also put her expertise into creating Let’s See Labs, an enterprise focused on the sociocultural transformation of individuals through a number of interactive means. These include film, writing and team workshops; and with these, people can unlock and uncover what lies at the common heart of leadership.

Gareth Gwyn joins us now to discuss how her writing process, how You Are Us came together, and how her workshops can help people for the better.

Q&A:

  1. So how did you get the idea for putting together You Are Us? What was the motivation and the process in its creation?
  2. Who would you say is the best kind of audience for the book? Who would find it helpful when it comes to learning more about leadership?
  3. How can a book like You Are Us help leaders or leaders-to-be, especially at a time when we truly need more good ones?
  4. What kind of an effect does societal polarization have on work culture as a whole?
  5. Tell us more about the interviews that helped create You Are Us. What were they based around, and how did you go about finding these people?
  6. What is probably the most challenging aspect when it comes to finding a good leader? Making sure someone isn’t swayed by the balance of money and power? Making sure they stay focused on those who need them for help? Or something else?
  7. Tell us more about Let’s See Labs, and the workshops that will help people with what you call “Personal Growthwork.”
  8. When did you start creating these workshops? Did you adapt to the virtual outreach model with everything that’s happened with COVID?
  9. Where can we learn more about You Are Us and the workshops?

The book is available for purchase here on Amazon; and you can find more information on everything we do with Let’s Do Labs over on BuildBridges.US!
