President Donald Trump has made note of a “historic agreement” to disarm Hamas once and for all. But why is Israel skeptical?
Nearly three years following the horrendous attack that kicked off conflict with Israel to begin with, it appears that Hamas is finally ready to agree to disarm, opening the door to a “historic agreement” as noted by President Donald Trump. And it’s something that Founder and President of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin is paying close attention to, especially considering Israel’s stance.
- President Donald Trump noted the “historic agreement” on Thursday, saying that Hamas and all other armed groups in Haza will see “complete disarmament.”
- Trump calls the move a “monumental step” towards “lasting peace and security,” with the promise of a new Palestinian government.
- Despite Trump’s optimism, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believes that the proposal does not meet Israel’s demands for a full demilitarization.
“Today, the Board of Peace reached a HISTORIC agreement for the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza,” Trump noted on Truth Social. “This is a monumental step towards lasting PEACE and SECURITY.”
He noted that, from this, a new Palestinian government will be put in place “that serves its PEOPLE,” with the Board of Peace working on the next phase of implementation.
As great as this sounds for the future of Israel, there appears to be skepticism, namely from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to the Times of Israel, there’s some objection to the deal, namely with the disarmament proposal not meeting with “Israel’s demands for a full demilitarization of Gaza in exchange for any withdrawals from the Strip.”
A senior U.S. official has responded to this, noting, “We’re not asking Israel to do anything that isn’t in the 20-point plan that they agreed to initially, and so we’re very confident they will adhere to it. If they don’t, President Trump would be very, very disappointed.”
He added, “We believe that they’ll continue to be a good partner in this and comply.”
