A representative for the Second Amendment Foundation discusses this recent victory, though there’s still a long ways to go with other states.
Considering that the state of California has literally come under heavy fire from a number of gun regulations, any victory – even a small one – for private gun owners should be celebrated.
That’s what recently happened in the community of Los Gatos (in Santa Clara County), as it has chosen to suspend enforcement of a new ordinance that took effect earlier this year. With it now on hold, “sensitive areas” are now done away with, meaning that citizens that practice legal concealed carry can now proceed without running across any sort of violation.
The law firm of Michael & Associates, representing these gun-owning citizens, noted that the city could face a lawsuit on constitutional grounds, since it was close to violating the Second Amendment – a right presented to all citizens.
And the group isn’t done yet. “We are already challenging similar restrictions in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Illinois, and elsewhere in California,” noted SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut. “Such regulations are clearly designed to circumvent the Supreme Court’s edict and we will oppose them wherever they appear. State and municipal governments cannot be allowed to flagrantly thumb their noses at the high court, no matter how much they dislike the right to bear arms.”
A representative for the Second Amendment Foundation joins us now to discuss this victory further, and what it means for private gun owners.

- What would you say is the big importance with concealed-carry? Does it provide additional safety against “active shooters,” or is there something else?
- Why do you think California is so hellbent in regards to putting these gun rules in place?
- Does it seem ironic that a number of criminal acts and “active shooter” events take place, even with these gun rules in effect?
- Why do politicians still push for restrictive rules against guns, despite the fact that the Second Amendment protects these citizens and their rights?
